The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) is a globally recognised health, safety awarding body.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) is accredited at Level 3 within the National Qualifications Framework and is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK
The NGC is This course is for managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need to broad understanding of health and safety issues.

Course objectives/key benefits
This is a course designed to provide the relevant knowledge required in order to undertake the respective Nebosh National General Certificate examinations.
Who is the course aimed at?
The NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety training course is aimed at staff personnel, for example: Managers Supervisors Non-safety specialists and staff with health and safety responsibilities and who need a grounding and recognised qualification in occupational safety and health.
There are no entry/pre-requisite requirements to undertaking this course, although it would be beneficial to have a basic understanding of health and safety in general.
The NEBOSH syllabus covers 3 NGC Units:
- Foundations in health & safety policy
- Organising for health & safety
- Promoting a positive health & safety culture
- Risk assessment
- Principles of control
- Monitoring review and audit
- Incident and accident investigation and reporting
- Movement of people and vehicles – hazards and control
- Manual and mechanical handling – hazards and control
- Working equipment hazards and control
- Electrical hazards and control
- Fire hazards and control
- Chemical and biological health – hazards and control
- Physical and psychological health – hazards and control
- Construction activities – hazards and control
- Risk assessment and report of the workplace
Unit NGC 1: Management of health & safety
Unit NGC 2: Controlling workplace hazards
Unit NGC 3: Health and Safety Practical Application
Two weeks (9 days training and 1 day of exam revision)
Each delegate is required to sit two unit written exams during the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety assessment and submit a hand written practical assignment.
This paperwork is explained during the course by the tutor. It is the delegate’s responsibility to submit their assessment within the given timescale. Any assessments not returned by the deadline will result in the delegate failing the course.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a training course to prepare the candidate for the examinations. These examinations can be undertaken in Bristol.
