Advanced Boiler Diagnostics
SWAAT’s Advanced Boiler Diagnostics Course is aimed at existing gas engineers or ACS approved gas operatives including newly qualified ACS engineers, who are looking to enhance their practical skills with further technical support on boiler maintenance, fault finding and repair.
Avoid wasting money throwing cash at boilers because you have misdiagnosed the fault. Our technician will train you how to diagnose faults.
Understand resistance with sensors, continuity, NTC & PTC circuits, check components on PCB boards. You will be trained on electrical safety and how to check for polarity faults which could affect the flame rectification circuit.
Safe electrical isolation is included within this course and is not only an essential requirement as it preserves life, it is now also a requirement of British Standard 6891:2015 Specification for the installation and maintenance of low pressure gas installation pipework of up to 35mm (R1 1/4) on premises.
Every year, people working on construction sites and on refurbishment and maintenance activities suffer electric shock and burn injuries some of which, tragically, are fatal. Understanding and implementing safe isolation procedures will reduce risk when carrying out electrical repairs or installation work and this course will provide you with the necessary skills to help achieve this
If you have opted for a career as a breakdown engineer or just want to brush up on your fault finding skills then this is the course for you.
Who is the course aimed at?
Any Gas Safe Registered operatives who wish to undertake gas boiler repairs.
This course is aimed at Gas Safe Engineers and it is considered that they will have a working knowledge of multi-meters. If you have limited knowledge on using a multi-meter or simply want to update your knowledge, SWAAT offer a one-day multimeter course. Please contact our office on 01579 348544 for more information.
- Safe Isolation certificated by Certain
- Fault finding logic sequence
- Be able to trace a fault from a particular point in boilers start up sequence
- Fully understand the interlocks and how to diagnose the faults using a multimeter
- Determine a PCB fault
- Understand a flame rectification fault
- Spark electrode fault
- Test a pump with your multimeter
- Diagnose a faulty air pressure switch
- Test a high limit stat
- Fan faults
- Diverter valve faults
- Gas valve operational testing including coil testing
- Negative and positive temperature coefficient thermistors
Practical workshop and theory
There is no formal assessment (although a number of faults will be set on boilers at the end of the course and the candidate asked to identify them).
Candidates will gain the confidence to tackle most boiler breakdowns and repairs logically, and be able to eliminate a large number of mis-leading faults.
Candidates will be provided with course book.
